"I remained two days at Lausanne in this painful state of mind. I contemplated the lake; the waters were placid, all around as calm, and the snowy mountains..."
Analysis
Victor travels back to his home town of Geneva after hearing about the death of his brother , William, from a letter he received from his father. When traveling to Geneva, he approaches a lake which signifies that he was very close to Geneva. He stopped for a while and "wept like a child". He notices that the day is very good and tranquil which sets a setting for Geneva.
