Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley around the early 19th century. Over the course of the years, the novel has started to become extremely popular worldwide. Decades ago and most especially today in this generation, everyone knows what Frankenstein is. Mary Shelley has created a widely known masterpiece. Although many people know Frankenstein, they fail to understand that "Frankenstein" is NOT the creature the scientist created. However, it is the name of the scientist, Victor Frankenstein. This is a common mistake. In today's society, people acknowledge Frankenstein as one of the classic horror genres of literature. The culture during the time Mary Shelley had written the novel compared to our culture today has changed dramatically. Back then, Mary believed that this story would be considered a horror as it is a story about the creation of an odd creature that is not socially accepted mainly because of its appearance. People in her age most likely thought that a creature like this would be considered a "monster" and that everyone should avoid it regardless of its nature. What people today understand, is that regardless of the appearance of people, we all have feelings and emotions and we do not consider the "different" to be considered "different" and an "outcast" by the what the majority of the people think. People are people and we all have the same feelings and emotions. Today, there are a lot of new books out there that are of the horror genre. Classics like Frankenstein set forth the age of science fiction/horror novels.
